Moving into a new home means enjoying a beautiful new kitchen! You’ve had the chance to pick everything from the kitchen counters to the sink and faucet, and you’re now getting to enjoy it! To help you get started on stocking your new kitchen, we’ve put together a list of the main pantry and refrigerated essentials. Depending on the size of your family, and your lifestyle, you can adjust the items you purchase from this master list. There’s no use wasting space and money on foods you’ll never eat.
Stock up on your family’s favorites so you can start enjoying your new gourmet kitchen to the fullest
As a note, one way to approach stocking your new kitchen is to gradually build up these items over the next month or two or longer. (That is opposed to doing one extra-large grocery run.) However it works best for you and family, here’s a great list to get you well-stocked in your new kitchen:
Pantry Items:
Bread
Rice
Pasta
Flour
Sugar (white and brown)
Baking soda
Baking powder
Vanilla
Corn Starch
Coffee
Salt
Starter snacks your family loves (pretzels, popcorn, nuts, dried fruit etc.)
Cooking oil (canola and olive oil are great to have on hand)
Soy Sauce
Vinegar
Cereals, Muesli, Oats
Lentils
Peanut Butter
Chocolate chips (if you want to enjoy a fresh batch of cookies in your new kitchen)
Honey
Pick up everything to bake an inaugural batch of chocolate chip cookies as you celebrate moving into your new gourmet kitchen
Canned food:
Corn
Beans (or you can purchase dry beans)
Green Beans
Diced Tomatoes
Pineapple
Peaches
Chicken Broth
Tuna
Olives
Coconut Milk
Soups
Tomato sauce
Spaghetti sauce
Herbs, spices, and condiments:
Salt

Cinnamon
Oregano
Basil
Garlic Powder
Cumin

Perishable foods are good to get on about a two-week interval so they can be used up. Don’t worry about stocking up too heavily on fresh foods right when you move in
Meats that can be bought refrigerated, but put in smaller servings and frozen
When you’re stocking up, it’s also a great time to look at how you want to store items and organize your pantry
A few tips for your trip:
MAKE A LIST. No matter what, make a list before you go out to the store to ensure you remember the essentials your family will appreciate.
This is a large list to kick off with, so focus on the basics to start stocking your new kitchen. Be sure to purchase the things your family will actually use.
Stocking your entire kitchen in one trip is extremely ambitious, so plan on making a few foundational grocery runs or placing a few grocery orders as you’re getting settled in.
