5 New Year’s Resolutions for Your New Home

December 30, 2019, Author: Karen Stanley

Whether you’ve already been enjoying your new home in 2019, or are in the process of building in 2020, ring in the New Year with a few New Year’s resolutions for your home!

1. Pick a room to make more welcoming

The most important things in life are the people we surround ourselves with. Why not set a resolution to make your home a bit more inviting for those you love? Pick a room or area, and ask yourself what it would take to make it more welcoming. You could give your patio some love with outdoor furniture, or make the living room more entertaining friendly. When it comes to the design of your home, open floor plans lend themselves beautifully to hosting dinners and events. Invest in dinnerware and platters, and make the island a place where guests can enjoy a drink and treats.

A few serving platters are a great addition to making your home more inviting at dinner parties

2. Organize the kitchen supplies

Healthy eating tends to be on the list for New Year’s resolutions. Make it stick this year by organizing your pantry and kitchen supplies. Remember to sort and organize your items before purchasing organizational bins or storage containers. That will ensure your new organizing tools fit seamlessly into your pantry. Everything you need will be right there, when you need it to prepare healthy foods for you and your family.

Organize your pantry and refrigerator to help you keep your New Year’s resolutions

3. Designate a space to exercise

Getting a bit of exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle, so let your home help you reach your exercising goals for 2020. Turn your optional studio space into a home gym, or designate a spare bedroom. Purchase a few yoga mats that could be rolled up and stored in a beautiful basket on your patio or the loft, for morning yoga and meditation.

Utilize your optional studio space and create a home gym this new year. Consider only investing in equipment you will use frequently

4. Invest in family photos and art

One of the greatest joys about a new home is making it yours. A great way to personalize your home is by investing in family photography, and artwork. Print beautiful canvases or prints to display in your living room, entryway, or throughout your home. Creating a photo album capturing the last year’s trips or other family events or accomplishments to have on the coffee table, is a nice personal touch to any living space.

5. Learn how to keep your home running like new

Having a home with the latest technologies, and most energy-efficient appliances and building materials is the reason many people love new home builds. Selections are made by your home builder, so you can trust that your home is not only energy-efficient but up to date. It is important, however, to get to know your home, and know how to keep it safe for you and your family. Learning how often to check carbon monoxide or radon detectors, or when to check dryer lint build-up will give you peace of mind, and keep your home running like new for years to come.

Consider adding succulents to any room in the house to bring a little life to the space, and help purify the air

For a little bit more green in 2020, explore different low-maintenance house plants. Succulents are a beautiful addition to any room and help purify the air, and naturally increase the overall humidity. In our gorgeous Arizona deserts, these plants perform beautifully indoors and out.
