When you build a new home, it’s important to know who to notify when you move. To take the guesswork out of it, we’ve compiled a master list so you can get back to focusing on your new home!
Government Agencies and Public Offices:
Thankfully a new home address is one of the first things we know when building a new home. Get a jump start on the notification process, starting with the USPS!
Social Security Administration (if you receive any benefits)
Voter registration
Pet licensing office
Utilities:
Gas and electric switched over to the new home address
Water turned on
Phone, cable + internet
Garbage/recycling
Insurance:
Homeowners
Medical, dental, life
Car
Financial:
With all that is going on with the move, the last thing you want to do is miss a bill. While you’re switching your address, take it a step further and opt to go paperless!
Banks
Investments
Credit cards
Loans (from student loans to the mortgage)
Retail Credit accounts
Accountants and tax advisors
Employer
Health Care Providers:
Usually, we don’t plan when we’re sick, so be sure to notify your healthcare providers of your address change.
Updating these can seem obvious, until your new furniture, or kitchen supply you ordered (because the last one got lost in the move) gets shipped to your last home. Take it one step further with the updating process, and remove all the outdated addresses to avoid the wrong delivery spot.
It may seem like a long list, but let the transition go smoothly by knowing who to notify when you move. Many of these are a quick phone call or jumping online. Switch your address in no time, so you can enjoy your new home in Gilbert.
